Ohio-based outfit The Filthy Heathens originally emerged against the backdrop of the pandemic back in 2021. Building on the work of influences from Lynyrd Skynyrd and Waylon Jennings, to Blackberry Smoke and The Steel Woods, the band has since cultivated a diverse and growing fanbase around their rebellious, modern take on the traditional Southern rock-meets-underground country sound. With momentum at an all-time high, the fearsome fivesome are now preparing to kick things up a notch for 2025, with multiple singles slated for release before their EP launch this winter, accompanied by a series of live shows and tour dates in the region and beyond.

Like many hard-bitten road warriors, Wes Shipp has spent much of his life traveling, busking, and fighting his inner demons, including an addiction to drugs. Ironically, he was once filmed outside a Walmart busking while still an addict. The video went viral, and ever since, he’s been making his mark by sharing songs that tell tales of heartbreak, survival and perseverance. His covers of Keith Whitley’s songs have been shared by the Whitley family on social media platforms multiple times. He draws from other influences as well, including Don Williams, Hank Williams Jr and Randy Travis. “I was always into music,” Shipp said. “I learned how to play guitar quickly as a teenager and from then on just fell in love with playing and singing.” Shipp’s career has evolved at a rapid pace. “It’s been crazy so far,” he said. “Especially when you take into consideration where I was three years ago. I’ve performed all over the country. It’s been amazing and vastly different the last few months. I’m very grateful for the love and support.”
Wes Shipp performs as a duo or with full band.
